Nearly 150 Plano city workers removed more than 250 fallen trees and tree limbs during last week’s winter storm, the city stated in a Facebook post. The crews included members of the city public works and parks and recreation departments. They worked nonstop in the freezing cold from 6 p.m. Wednesday through Friday evening, the city said. One person was killed in a shooting at a shopping center in Arlington on Saturday afternoon. Officers were called around 2:25 p.m. to the 4000 block of South Cooper Street and found two men lying on the ground, police said. A 31-year-old man whose name was not released was pronounced dead at the scene. The second man, a 29-year-old, was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Hundreds gathered at Antioch Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in Oak Cliff on Sunday to celebrate renaming a street after Karry D. Wesley, the church’s founding pastor, who died in 2019. Wheelice Wilson Jr., known to friends as “Mr. Coppell” because of his lifelong efforts to promote theater and history in his hometown, died Feb. 2. He was 74. Wilson, nicknamed Pete, taught at Coppell High School for 36 years and launched the drama department there. He also helped start Theatre Coppell, a community theatre group he led since 1987.
