Only 1 out of every 10 Texas school employees felt safe returning to work during the most recent COVID-19 surge, according to survey results released Monday by an educators union. A Texas Army National Guard soldier who was assigned to Operation Lone Star died in a non-mission-related incident Monday, the Texas Military Department announced. A 42-year-old man was fatally shot early Monday in Uptown, police said. Dallas police responded about 2:15 a.m. to the shooting in the 2600 block of Howell Street, near Routh Street. Officers found Jerriun Lamont Maxie lying on the ground near Sidebar, a bar, with a gunshot wound. Police said Maxie was “involved in a disturbance” with another man who police suspected shot him. Houston police were called at about 12:30 p.m. to the North Freeway at Airline after reports of a driver hitting a pedestrian on the inbound lanes of the freeway.
