Lawson Road is a major boulevard for residents in South Mesquite — and it’s getting some updates funded by a Texas Department of Transportation grant. Mesquite was awarded a TxDOT grant worth $400,000 to give the two-lane, poorly lit roadway a facelift that will include adding three feet of shoulder and a safety guardrail on both sides of Lawson Road between East Cartwright Road and Milam Road. Three North Texas laboratory companies are charged with participating in a bribery scheme where doctors were offered kickbacks to order millions of dollars worth of unnecessary tests. The scheme resulted in over $300 million being billed to federal health care programs, like Medicare, according to a federal indictment.
