WASHINGTON — Sen. Ted Cruz has been peddling a conspiracy theory for weeks suggesting that the FBI incited the attack on the U.S. Capitol. In this scenario, the nation’s prime law enforcement agency prodded supporters of defeated president Donald Trump to ignore police lines, assault officers, smash through doors, turn flagpoles into spears, invade the Senate chamber and threaten the vice president and House speaker. No evidence has surfaced for this explosive theory. And the purported motives for such a conspiracy are murky. The FBI director, under oath two months after the Jan. 6, 2021, riot, ruled out that there…

Lifeless black eyes peer out from a white face streaked with spiderwebbed black lines. Her round face is framed by coarse black hair. And of course, there’s the shiny blue dress with the lace collar. Creepy? Yes, but that didn’t stop visitors from checking out the doll left sitting on a bench outside Keller Town Hall. The city calls her Vicki M., short for “Victorian Murder Doll.” She showed up Wednesday night. Almost as quickly — she disappeared. Now the people who left her there want her back. While she sat on the bench, passersby walked in to report the…

The Dallas Zoo’s black-and-white colobus monkey troop has grown by one after a surprise birth last month. The yet-to-be-named monkey was born Jan. 26 to first-time mom Pili and dad Kuruka. At just 2 weeks old, the baby is already in the habitat in the public eye and spending lots of time with its family. Staff haven’t confirmed the new troop member’s gender — colobus monkeys spend lots of time with their babies in the weeks after they are born, so zookeepers haven’t had a chance to get a close look. The newest member of the Dallas Zoo’s black and…

AUSTIN — A federal judge in San Antonio has halted a provision of the controversial election law Senate Bill 1 that made it a crime for election officials to solicit mail-in ballots. Federal District Judge Xavier Rodriguez made the ruling Friday night after taking testimony on a request for an injunction against the law. His ruling found that SB 1 violated the free speech rights of election administrators seeking to inform voters about mail-in ballots. The ruling comes as election administrators across Texas have been preparing to conduct the first state-wide election since SB 1 took effect in December. Early…
