DUNCANVILLE — Ignoring his opponents in the Republican primary, Gov. Greg Abbott told voters Tuesday that reelecting him would assure the defeat of former U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke and stop the forces of socialism. “Democrat values today are far different than they were when I lived in Duncanville,” Abbott said during a rally at Ben Franklin Apothecary. “Back then there were Democrats, and then there were liberals, and then there were progressives. Today we are running against socialists who are trying to destroy the state of Texas and we are not going to let big government socialists destroy our great…

Dallas County reported 62 more COVID-19 deaths and 6,383 new coronavirus cases in the past week, about 2,800 fewer cases than what was reported in the last seven-day period. The numbers signify a downward trend in new cases that is being seen across North Texas and the state. “Although the numbers are much lower than they have been last month, they are still high in comparison to pre-Omicron numbers,” County Judge Clay Jenkins said in a written statement. “Hopefully the numbers will continue to decline rapidly, but for now it’s important to continue being vigilant about masking in indoor public…

Growing up, he hardly remembers learning about stories of our ethnic and minority communities in San Antonio under Texas’ public schools. “The curriculum that I learned in K-12 was typically Eurocentric, and it was devoid of people of color — Latinos, African Americans, women, and so forth,” Esparza said. Now, as a professor of history at Texas Southern University, he said it’s important to him that his children learn all parts of U.S. history, including…
