MEXICO CITY — Sen. Ted Cruz has accused Mexico of “undermining the rule of law,” and Mexico’s government has shot back, saying at least candidates in Mexico concede defeat when they lose elections. The exchange came after the Texas Republican claimed earlier this week there was “deepening civil unrest in Mexico and the breakdown there of civil society, the breakdown of the rule of law.” Cruz was referring to recent killings of journalists and politicians in Mexico. In a terse open letter to Cruz late Thursday, Mexico’s ambassador to the United States wrote that Mexico’s government likewise condemns violence and…

AUSTIN — Gov. Greg Abbott again holds a single-digit lead over Democrat Beto O’Rourke in the Texas governor’s race, while scandal-plagued Attorney General Ken Paxton probably is headed for a GOP runoff, according to a University of Texas at Tyler poll released Sunday. With a few breaks, though, such as a decision to stay home by GOP voters who say they probably will vote but aren’t sure, Paxton might get close to escaping a runoff, the poll found. And although the state’s main electric grid held up well during a recent ice storm, boosting Texans’ confidence that their lights wouldn’t go out…

In 1960, one year before the designated days were dropped and seven years before the fair was completely desegregated, The Dallas Morning News interviewed the Rev. H. Rhett James Jr., a local activist He said the fair’s “policy on desegregation is hazy and dubious. Our youth are refused on the Midway and at some shows, like the Ice Capades. I will say…
