ARLINGTON, Texas (KTRK) — The Houston Astros are above .500 and very much contending for another American League West title with 50 games left. But, dear ‘Stros fan, do you remember the last time Houston plated double digits in the run column? It was July 5 in Minnesota, and they’ve scored 10 or more runs six times out of 112 games, by the way. This is to mention the offensive futility the defending but limping AL West champs are facing lately. The team has gone 2-6 since July 28, scoring no more than five runs at any point in that span.…

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Residents at Fondren Place Town Homes in southwest Houston told ABC13 they no longer feel safe where they live. According to several residents, the problem is an erratic neighbor. Officers with the Houston Police Department have been called out to the Meyerland area several times in the past six months. Some of those calls resulted in criminal charges against the alleged suspect, Daniel Atnafu. A video taken by the community’s courtesy patrol officer, who is paid to park and watch over residents, gives an idea of a typical run-in with Atnafu. “You’re going to park by my…
CHAGRIN FALLS, Ohio (KTRK) — Tytus Howard’s return to the Houston Texans’ offensive line after a season-ending knee injury may have hit a setback on Tuesday. ESPN’s D.J. Bien-Aime reported that the sixth-year right tackle entered the blue medical tent and left practice on a cart. Bien-Aime, following the Texans for a short training camp stint outside of Cleveland, Ohio, observed that Howard “looked fine leaving on the cart.” The team hasn’t said what happened to Howard as of Tuesday afternoon. Howard dispute the reports on X, formerly Twitter. “Dang I thought I walked off the field,” Howard posted. Howard has…
HUNTSVILLE, Texas (KTRK) — Death row inmate Arthur Lee Burton is scheduled to be put to death Wednesday for the capital murder of Nancy Adleman nearly three decades ago. In July 1997, Adleman never came back from a run along the bayou near West Road and Beltway 8. Her partially clothed body was found in a hole a day later. Her family and friends described her as a devout Christian and beloved wife and mother of three children. Along the bayou, a large white cross was erected as a memorial to Adleman years ago and still stands today. By August 1997,…

PARIS: The International Boxing Association (IBA) claimed on Monday at a chaotic press conference that tests on two boxers at the centre of a gender controversy at the Paris Olympics show they “are male”. The IBA said previously that it disqualified Algeria’s Imane Khelif and Taiwan’s Lin Yu-ting from its 2023 world championships after the fighters failed gender eligibility tests, without specifying what the tests were. The boxing in the French capital is run by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) because of financial, governance and ethical concerns at the IBA. The IOC cleared the two boxers to fight and both…
PARIS: US gymnastics superstar Simone Biles polished off a redemptive Paris Olympics campaign with a floor exercise silver on Monday, shrugging off a balance beam fall to finish runner-up to Brazilian Rebeca Andrade. Biles went into the final day of competition with a chance to push her tally of Paris gold to a record-setting five in one Games. She had already led the United States to team gold, regained the all-around crown she first won as part of a four-gold haul in Rio in 2016 and soared to vault gold. She couldn’t find her way back to the top of…
Arshad Nadeem is the best he can be. Yet, he has nothing. At least, nothing that makes him the best in the world. But he’s almost there, on the very cusp of it: a javelin throw away from making history and ending Pakistan’s three-decade long wait for an Olympic medal. It’s now about waiting and watching, and trusting the process. And praying. The only talisman he carries every competition is “puri mulk ke duaien.” He will do so again at the Paris Olympics on Tuesday, when he steps into the Stade de France; an imposing venue that’s a far cry…
Arshad Nadeem cruised to the Olympic javelin final with a solid 86.59m throw in Tuesday’s qualifier round at Stade de France, keeping the nation’s hopes for an Olympic medal well and alive. His season best throw, the first and only of the qualifier, ranks him fourth heading into Thursday’s night finals. Reigning Olympic and world champion India’s Neeraj Chopra led the field with a massive 89.34m throw, also a season best. Sandwiched between the two South Asians were Grenada’s Anderson Peters in third place (88.63m) and reigning European Champion Julian Weber in fourth with a 87.76m. All four athletes walked away from…
