KARACHI: A former Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) official, who was the last living survivor of the 1965 Cairo crash, passed away in London. Salahuddin Siddique, 93, had retired in 1980 as general manager (public affairs) of the national flag carrier. He was one of the people on board the ill-fated inaugural PIA flight from Karachi and London, which crashed near Cairo airport on May 20, 1965. The flight was supposed to stop over in Dhahran, Cairo and Geneva. The plane had 128 passengers and crew on board, of whom only six had survived. Mr Siddique had been living in London…

ISLAMABAD: The Nat­ional Disaster Manage­ment Authority (NDMA) has warned of heavy rainfall in northeastern and southern parts of Punjab, which is likely to flood the Chenab River. The NDMA’s National Eme­rgency Operation Cen­tre said it is monitoring the “well marked low pressure system” in these regions. Dr Tayab Shah, who leads NDMA’s risk assessment unit, said that the system was also active in western and northeastern parts of Balochistan as well as northern Sindh. PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa health department has screened close contacts of a Mardan resident, who recently tested positive for mpox at the Public Health Reference Laboratory at the Khyber Medical University here. “The screening exercise didn’t find the symptoms of the viral infection in the male mpox patient’s family members, including parents, wife, two children, four sisters and three brothers,” director (public health) at the directorate-general health services Dr Irshad Ali Roghani told Dawn. MUSCAT: Oman has achieved over 50 per cent employment target in the first half of 2024 (January-June), announced Ministry of Labour Oman.  The Ministry of Labour in the Sultanate of Oman has reported notable progress in its employment plan for the first half of 2024.
