For the first time in Pakistan, all industries and brick kilns in Punjab have been assigned unique identification codes to streamline inspections across the province. According to the Directorate General of Environment Protection, the department has successfully completed the e-mapping of all industries. Field inspectors will now record inspection data in the EcoWatch app using these unique identification codes, ensuring that each unit’s data is readily available. The initiative will enhance monitoring and enforcement, making violation records instantly accessible. Officials have warned that employees found violating environmental regulations will face action under the PEEDA Act.

The United States reported the first outbreak of the deadly H7N9 bird flu on a poultry farm since 2017, as the country continues to grapple with another bird flu strain that has infected humans and caused egg prices to hit record highs. The spread of avian influenza, commonly called bird flu, has ravaged flocks around the world, disrupting supply and fuelling higher food prices. Its spread to mammals, including dairy cows in the US, has raised concerns among governments about a risk of a new pandemic. The strain that has caused most damage to poultry in recent years and the…
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg told lawmakers in a congressional hearing last January that it didn’t make sense for his platforms to verify how old their users are in order to serve them age-appropriate experiences. Instead, that responsibility should lie with app stores, he said. Just over a year later, one state has taken his advice. Utah passed a first-of-its-kind bill last week requiring app stores to verify users’ ages and obtain parental consent before minors could download apps to their devices. The bill, which is awaiting Utah Governor Spencer Cox’s signature, marks a win for Zuckerberg and other platform operators,…

Meta is once again facing allegations from a former employee that a growth-at-all-costs culture has caused offline harm. A new book called “Careless People,” published Tuesday by former executive-turned-whistleblower Sarah Wynn-Williams, provides a detailed account of her six years at the company, offering an insider’s perspective into controversial moments in the company’s history. That includes Facebook being used to fuel political violence during the genocide of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar, which the tech giant later admitted it didn’t do enough to prevent. It also discusses Facebook’s role in President Donald Trump’s 2016 election campaign, as well as central characters in…
The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) asked a federal court in Seattle on Wednesday to delay a September trial in its case alleging Amazon misled consumers over its Prime subscription service, citing “severe resource shortfalls in terms of both money and personnel.” Jonathan Cohen, an attorney for the FTC, told US District Judge John Chun during a hearing that the agency faces a “dire resource situation” amid cost cutting measures enacted under President Donald Trump’s administration. “We have lost employees in the agency, in our division and on our case team,” Cohen said. Cohen’s statements are the first clear indication…

The country’s top telecoms provider Reliance Jio, owned by Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani, said on Wednesday it had inked a deal with SpaceX. “Jio will not only offer Starlink equipment in its retail outlets but will establish a mechanism to support customer service installation and activation,” it said in a statement. A similar agreement with Bharti Airtel, India’s second-largest mobile operator, was announced a day earlier. Gwynne Shotwell, president of SpaceX, said the Musk-owned company looked…
The judge overseeing Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni’s legal battle granted much of Lively’s request for an expanded protective order that aims to prevent some information, such as medical records and trade secrets related to future business projects, from being made public. On Thursday, the judge said in his ruling that the court’s standard protective order would not be sufficient for the needs of Lively and Baldoni’s case, given the high-profile and sensitive nature of the case. “These cases involve both business competitors and allegations of sexual harm,” the judge wrote, adding that discovery will unveil “confidential and sensitive business…

Vanna White only works 34 days a year, but she says it’s not as easy as you think. During a recent conversation on the “Elvis Duran and the Morning Show,” White talked about her work schedule on “Wheel of Fortune.” “We film about 34 days a year,” she said. “That’s it.” Those present reacted with surprise. White was then asked how many shows she films a day. “Six shows in a day,” White said. “Come on, feel bad for me.” After all, as was pointed out, that’s six wardrobe changes. When White was told that means she has 331 days…
