Islamabad: The Speaker of the National Assembly, Ayaz Sadiq, has labeled the statements made by an Islamabad High Court judge as an attack on Parliament.
Emphasis on the Importance of Parliament
During a session of the National Assembly, Ayaz Sadiq stated that the comments made by the judge of the Islamabad High Court were an attack on Parliament, and no one has the right to make derogatory remarks about it.
The Speaker instructed the Minister of Law, Azam Nazir Tarar, to inform the concerned judge about the supremacy of Parliament.
Controversial Statements by the Judge
These comments were made by Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiani of the Islamabad High Court during a hearing related to a petition challenging the results of the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) exams.
Justice Kiani stated: “The pillars of the judiciary, parliament, and executive have crumbled; the judiciary’s pillar is in the air, but we are still not hopeless.”
Earlier, Justice Kiani had mentioned at an event that the 26th Amendment was introduced based on a letter. “Whether the 26th Amendment exists or not, you cannot dishearten us with your intentions. Pakistan has faced such phases before, and today the hopes of the people are tied to the judiciary, parliament, and media.”
Comments on Constitutional Issues
He further stated that he believes the 26th Constitutional Amendment will eventually be heard by the full bench of the Supreme Court, and this issue will be resolved for the survival of Pakistan’s people and system.
