New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal has raised serious allegations about electoral practices ahead of the February 5 Delhi elections, claiming widespread voter list manipulation and illegal inducements to voters.
In a video statement released on January 24 on social media, Kejriwal accused opposing parties of attempting to influence voters through various means, including the distribution of gifts and other incentives. The AAP leader specifically alleged that these activities were being conducted with the knowledge of local law enforcement.
AAP Secretary Pankaj Gupta raised additional concerns about the electoral process, claiming that voter registration officers are processing applications without proper documentation on the official website. The party also alleged that voter names were removed from electoral rolls across Delhi’s 70 constituencies on December 10, 2024.
“The electoral registration officers are processing applications without uploading them to the website,” Gupta stated during a press conference. This lack of transparency, according to AAP officials, raises questions about the integrity of the voter registration process.
These allegations come at a critical time as political parties intensify their campaigns for the upcoming Delhi elections. Election officials have not yet publicly responded to these claims.
Electoral experts note that such allegations of voter list manipulation and illegal inducements are serious matters that fall under the purview of the Election Commission of India, which has established protocols for investigating such complaints.
The Delhi electoral office maintains that all voter registration processes follow standard procedures and regulations as mandated by the Election Commission. Officials encourage citizens to verify their voter registration status through official channels and report any discrepancies through proper administrative channels.
Local electoral observers indicate that the coming weeks will be crucial in determining the impact of these allegations on the electoral process and voter confidence in the upcoming polls.
