Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir has emphasized the importance of a collaborative approach between civilian and military institutions to tackle the challenges faced by the public, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The military’s media wing stated that the army chief’s visit to the province was aimed at assessing the security situation, reviewing development initiatives, and strengthening coordination between military and civil institutions. During his visit, Field Marshal Munir highlighted the need for good governance, infrastructure development, and inclusive, people-centric progress.
The ISPR also noted that in addition to receiving a comprehensive brief on security dynamics, including threat analysis and successful operations against “Fitna al Hindustan,” the army chief was updated on ongoing development projects and efforts to improve socio-economic conditions in southern Balochistan.
In his interaction with Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti and representatives of the civil administration, the Field Marshal reaffirmed his unwavering support for all initiatives aimed at improving the province’s socio-economic development. He also reiterated the Pakistan Army’s commitment to stand with the people of Balochistan in their pursuit of peace, prosperity, and sustainable development.
During his engagement with the troops, the army chief praised their high morale, operational readiness, and steadfast dedication to safeguarding national sovereignty. He commended their role in ensuring peace and stability in the region under difficult circumstances.
The Field Marshal’s visit comes amid a surge in terror attacks in Pakistan, with Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa bearing the brunt. A report from the provincial Home Department revealed that Balochistan saw at least 257 deaths in 501 terror incidents during the first six months of the current year. The report highlighted a 45% increase in terrorist attacks and an alarming 100% rise in target killings. During this period, the number of martyred security personnel stood at 133.
Last week, Chief Minister Bugti disclosed during a press conference that security forces, including the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), had foiled a major plot for destruction on Independence Day. The chief minister also revealed the confession of a BUITEMS University lecturer who admitted to using the Telegram application for terrorist activities. The lecturer confessed to receiving targets, facilitating terrorist operations, and betraying the state.
