Apple, the global tech giant, is preparing to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its revolutionary product, the iPhone, in 2027. To make the milestone memorable, the company reportedly plans to repeat its previous naming strategy.
This year (2025), Apple introduced the 17th edition of the iPhone. Logically, the device released in 2027 should be called the “iPhone 19”.
However, the latest reports suggest that Apple will skip the number ’19’ and will instead name its new device the “iPhone 20” to honor the occasion.
This strategy is familiar to Apple fans. In 2017, the company celebrated the 10th anniversary by skipping the iPhone 9 and releasing the “iPhone X” (ten). That model introduced a major design shift, and its influence is still evident in today’s models.
Building on this precedent, it is now expected that the “iPhone 20” series will not just be a name change, but will also bring significant and major changes to the device’s design.
