The International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) has officially removed social media influencer Apoorva Makhija from its list of promoters. This decision follows a major controversy involving podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia and other comedians over their remarks on the show India’s Got Latent.
IIFA 2025 is set to take place in Jaipur on March 8-9. Initially, Apoorva Makhija was listed as one of the event’s promoters, but after public backlash and legal action, her name has been removed from the official list.
The controversy erupted when Ranveer Allahbadia, along with comedians like Samay Raina, Ashish Chanchlani, and Apoorva Makhija, made remarks on their show that were deemed obscene and inappropriate.
On Thursday, a legal complaint was filed in Kota against these influencers, accusing them of promoting vulgarity and undermining cultural values. The complainants, a group of lawyers, argued that such content negatively impacts society, especially young audiences.
Following the outrage, multiple cases have been registered across India, including one by Assam Police, under sections related to obscenity and public morality.
Apoorva Makhija, who gained fame through her viral Instagram skits during the Covid pandemic, recently appeared as a guest panellist on India’s Got Latent. A heated exchange with a contestant on the show further fueled the controversy.
With her removal from IIFA 2025’s list of promoters, it remains to be seen whether this controversy will impact her future collaborations and social media influence.
