Veteran Bollywood actor Anupam Kher has publicly challenged X (formerly Twitter) owner Elon Musk, questioning the massive and sudden drop in his follower count on the social media platform. The actor’s query highlights ongoing concerns about transparency in social media metrics under the platform’s current ownership.
In a direct post to Musk, Anupam Kher disclosed that he has lost more than 900,000 followers over the past 15 days. He asked Musk and his team if they could ascertain the reason for the sudden decrease, clarifying that his inquiry was simply an observation, not a formal complaint.
While there has been no official response from Elon Musk or the platform’s team, social media users were quick to offer an explanation. Many commented that the sharp reduction in followers is likely a consequence of the platform’s continuous effort to suspend bot accounts and non-genuine users, a process that often disproportionately affects accounts with high follower counts. Kher’s post underscores the volatility of celebrity influence metrics amid structural changes on major tech platforms.
