Karachi:
An American woman, Onijah Andrew Robinson, who gained media attention after traveling to Pakistan for love, has fallen ill and has been shifted to a hospital.
According to the police, local hotels and guesthouses refused to provide her accommodation, after which she was handed over to a welfare organization. She was later taken to a social welfare office on Sharea Faisal.
The head of the welfare organization stated that Robinson had previously been at Tipu Sultan police station, where her health deteriorated due to a lack of rest. However, arrangements have now been made for her stay.
He added, “She is like my sister and can stay here for as long as she wants.” Female volunteers from the organization will also stay with her.
This incident occurred after Robinson rested in the parking area of a residential building in Karachi’s Garden area, complaining of exhaustion from sitting for hours.
Reportedly, the American woman, a mother of two, fell in love with 19-year-old Nidal Ahmed Memon after interacting with him on social media. She arrived in Karachi on October 11, 2024, intending to marry him, but Memon’s family refused the marriage.
For months, Robinson remained stranded in Karachi. When her visit visa expired, the Airport Security Force (ASF) handed her over to the airport police. Later, an NGO provided her with a return ticket to the United States and financial assistance, but she refused to leave.
Instead, she went to Memon’s residence and camped in the apartment’s parking area.
Robinson has demanded Pakistani citizenship and a weekly stipend of $3,000 from local authorities.
