A tentative agreement has been reached between American Airlines and its flight attendants, marking a significant milestone after nearly five years of negotiations over pay and scheduling issues.
The Association of Professional Flight Attendants (APFA) announced that the new contract was secured just days before negotiations were set to end. APFA National President Julie Hedrick expressed satisfaction with the deal, stating, “Our latest contract negotiations have resulted in substantial benefits for our flight attendants. After years of discussions and with help from the National Mediation Board, we have reached a much-needed agreement with American Airlines. This contract addresses key concerns related to compensation, work rules, and retroactive pay. If approved, it will inject billions of additional dollars into compensation and work rules for our flight attendant group.”
Flight attendants at the Fort Worth-based airline have not seen a pay increase since January 2019.
The next step involves presenting the agreement to the APFA’s board of directors and executive committee for review. Following this, the union’s 28,000 members will vote on the proposed deal once it has been approved by their leadership.
