A property management company in Alief, Texas, faces felony charges for allegedly polluting water by dumping sewage containing E. coli into storm drains.
The incident, which took place at the Ashford Stoneridge Apartments on Beechnut St., was observed by a city inspector in November 2023. HK Capital Management is accused of allowing the discharge of sewage containing E. coli, posing a threat to water pollution in the city’s storm drain system connected to state water.
While the city assured that the pollution does not affect drinking water, records from 311 indicate at least seven service requests for sewage wastewater dating back to 2022.
Resident Alexander Miller, concerned for his four young daughters’ safety, reported sewage water leaks outside the office parking lot, an ongoing issue over the three years he’s lived there.
This isn’t the first time HK Capital Management faced such accusations. In 2023, the company was charged with water pollution at another apartment complex, the Ashford St. Cloud Apartments on Hillcroft, where a detective discovered improperly cleaned sewage drains containing toilet paper and fecal matter, leading to high E. coli levels in tests.
However, the case was dismissed due to insufficient evidence.
HPD’s Environmental Crimes Unit, when contacted about resident safety, deferred response until Thursday due to ongoing training.
In response to inquiries, an attorney for HK Capital Management acknowledged the seriousness of the matter, stating ongoing legal proceedings prevent detailed comments but ensuring commitment to address concerns through the appropriate channels while prioritizing resident safety and well-being.
