The dispute between the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen has escalated dramatically, with Tareen publicly tearing up a legal notice sent to him by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
In a video statement posted on the social media platform ‘X’, Tareen revealed that the PSL management had sent him a legal notice, demanding a public apology and threatening to terminate his franchise contract if he refused.
Responding defiantly, Tareen stated, “If you think I will be silenced by threats, you are mistaken.”
He then proceeded to offer a deeply sarcastic apology in his video message. “I apologize for demanding the inclusion of competent people in PSL management,” he said. “I also apologize for criticizing the draft, the training facilities, and the opening ceremony—for thinking about how to improve this event.”
Tareen added that he loves the PSL and is ready to sit down to resolve issues, but claimed, “To this day, no one has contacted me. No one has made a single call or email to ask what my issues are.”
Conversely, PCB sources state the notice was issued due to alleged breaches of the 10-year franchise agreement and for running a campaign that damages the PSL’s reputation. Sources warn that if a satisfactory response is not received, the franchise faces potential contract termination and its owners could be blacklisted.
