The Akron Police Department has released bodycam footage showing the response to a mass shooting that occurred at a birthday party.
According to News 5 Cleveland, the incident took place on June 2, when approximately 200 people were gathered to celebrate on Kelly Avenue in Ohio.
The footage reveals that police initially arrived at the scene to disperse the crowd, citing concerns about traffic disruption. After the police left, partygoers returned, but just a few hours later, shortly after midnight, authorities received reports of a shooting.
The attack resulted in one fatality and 24 injuries. Akron Police Chief Brian Harding confirmed that the deceased was a 27-year-old man and that the injured victims were between 19 and 43 years old.
Mayor Shammas Malik expressed his concern, stating, “This was a tragic incident that affects our entire community. The number of victims is both shocking and distressing. I want to be very clear: those responsible for this shooting will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”
Despite extensive interviews, evidence reviews, and tip investigations, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting thus far.
