HANGU: On Wednesday, district administration officials confirmed that another aid convoy, carrying essential goods such as food and other supplies, was sent to Kurram from the Torpul check-post in Tal. The convoy included 45 trucks loaded with goods.
District Police Officer Muhammad Khalid stated that later in the day, an additional consignment of 16 trucks was dispatched to the region. He confirmed that a total of 61 vehicles carrying food supplies entered Kurram district on the same day.
The entire supply operation is being closely monitored by Kohat Regional Police Officer Abbas Majeed and the Kohat commissioner to ensure the smooth and secure transportation of goods.
Kurram has been plagued by violence for decades, with recent clashes leading to the deaths of around 150 people since November 2024. This renewed conflict began when two separate convoys, escorted by police, were ambushed, resulting in the deaths of 40 individuals.
The ongoing security situation has caused an acute shortage of goods and medicines, creating significant hardship for local residents. However, a peace agreement reached between the warring tribes earlier this month has allowed for the resumption of essential supplies to the district. Despite this, miscreants continue to attack aid convoys.
Last week, terrorists ambushed a convoy of 35 vehicles intended to resupply local traders with essential items, including rice, flour, cooking oil, and medicine, killing at least 8 people, including security personnel, drivers, and civilians. In retaliation, security forces eliminated six assailants.
Separately, district officials reported that targeted operations, based on intelligence, are ongoing in the Bagan area. These operations are coordinated by the civil administration, police, and security forces. During these operations, a large cache of illegal weapons has been seized, with strong cooperation from local tribes and residents. Authorities emphasized that these efforts are crucial in maintaining peace and eliminating criminal activities in the area. Under the peace agreement, strict action will be taken against miscreants without discrimination.
