A “warning bell” has been sounded for TV hosts and broadcast professionals as a British channel introduces its own AI anchor, reinforcing fears that the broadcasting industry will be one of the first and most significantly impacted by artificial intelligence.
Although the management of Britain’s Channel 4 has offered reassurances that this is merely an “experimental test” and not a permanent change, speculation is mounting that AI anchors could soon take over the screens from their human counterparts.
In its own statement, the channel admitted the move serves as a “reminder of how much change AI can bring.”
This development is seen as a warning not just for on-screen anchors, but for reporters and all broadcast staff to prepare for AI’s integration. This is not the first time AI has appeared on television; in 2018, China’s Xinhua news agency introduced the world’s first AI news anchor.
