RAWALPINDI: A high-tension protest led by the sisters of the PTI founder and party workers near the Factory Naka outside Adiala Jail was forcibly dispersed by police in a late-night operation. The sit-in was organized to protest the continued denial of meeting access to the imprisoned PTI founder.
The police initiated the dispersal around 2:00 AM, employing water cannons against the demonstrators, which led to significant tension in the area. In response to the police action, workers reportedly retaliated by throwing stones. Following the confrontation, police arrested multiple demonstrators.
In a notable incident, Senator Mushtaq, who had arrived at the location to express solidarity with the PTI founder’s sisters, was also caught in the stream of the water cannon utilized by the police to break up the gathering.
The forced conclusion of the protest followed a prolonged deadlock in negotiations. Sources indicated that a stalemate persisted between PTI leadership and the police regarding the return of 14 confiscated government and private vehicles from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. While the police returned five vehicles, protest leaders insisted on the return of all impounded vehicles before agreeing to end the sit-in.
