The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in collaboration with the Texas Division of Emergency Management and Dallas County, is expanding its support by opening additional Disaster Recovery Centers in Dallas County. These centers aim to offer personalized assistance to individuals impacted by the severe storms, high winds, and power outages that occurred in May.
One such center began operating this past Saturday in the hospitality room of the West Dallas Multipurpose Center located at 2828 Fish Trap Road. The center will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week.
Residents affected by the storms are not required to visit a Disaster Recovery Center to apply for FEMA assistance. They can apply online at disasterassistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-3362. The deadline to apply for FEMA assistance has been extended to August 15, 2024.
Dallas County Judge Clay Lewis Jenkins emphasized the importance of these centers, stating, “The Disaster Recovery Center at the West Dallas Multipurpose Center provides another avenue for individuals affected by the storm to receive one-on-one assistance from representatives of FEMA, the Small Business Administration, and our nonprofit partners. I encourage all residents with storm damage to either visit a Disaster Recovery Center in person or explore available resources online at www.disasterassistance.gov.”
