Adam Sandler’s fashion sense, or the perceived lack thereof, gained even more attention at the Oscars on Sunday when host Conan O’Brien playfully mocked his relaxed style during one of the night’s skits.
O’Brien, hosting his first Oscars, addressed the audience, stating, “For such a prestigious night, it is important that everyone is properly dressed.”
“Adam,” he pointedly said, as the camera focused on the “Uncut Gems” star, who was sporting his signature colorful hoodie, long gym shorts, socks, and sneakers, “What are you wearing?”
Sandler initially acted oblivious before appearing to grow increasingly indignant as O’Brien teased him, saying, “You’re dressed like a guy playing video poker at 2 a.m.”
“I like the way I look,” Sandler retorted. “Because I’m a good person; I don’t care about what I wear and what I don’t wear. Does my snazzy gym shorts and fluffy sweatshirt offend you so much that you had to mock me in front of my peers?”
Eventually, he stood up as if to leave, inviting the audience to join him for a “five on five basketball” game later.
Finally, spotting Best Actor nominee Timothée Chalamet, he exclaimed, “Chalamet!” and gave the “A Complete Unknown” star a hug.
Mission accomplished, securing audience applause, Sandler ran out the back of the theater with his arms raised, as O’Brien waved him off from the stage.
The moment quickly went viral on social media, garnering millions of views on X and YouTube.
Sandler’s quirky, “dad-like” attire has turned him into an unlikely fashion icon and earned him a dedicated Gen Z fanbase, with many documenting their favorite examples of his outfits on TikTok.
