Actor Sterling K. Brown managed to attend the 2025 Emmy Awards despite a foot injury. Brown, 49, was scheduled to present the award for “Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series” at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards alongside his Paradise costars Julianne Nicholson and James Marsden.
The actor used a knee scooter with his left leg propped up to join his costars at the event. No comments were made about his scooter-bound entry onto the stage. The stars of the drama presented the award to Jeff Hiller for his work in HBO’s Somebody Somewhere.
Brown had addressed the injury a few days before the award show in a detailed Instagram video recorded from his hospital bed, where he revealed he had torn his Achilles tendon. In the June 9 post, Brown explained that he was “athletic” when the injury occurred but that it was the result of a painful step—nothing he considered “super dangerous.”
Brown, however, revealed at the time that he was postponing his surgery to make sure he could attend the 2025 Emmys, where he was nominated in the “Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series” category for his performance in Hulu’s hit series Paradise. He stated, “I’m going to do [the surgery] after the Emmys so I can motivate myself to go and try to celebrate with my cast and the producers of Paradise because we got recognized.” He added, “I know I’m going to have to have this conversation a bunch of times with a bunch of people. So hopefully, this will sort of condense the number of times that I’ll have to share some unfortunate news.”
