A clear move towards transparency and rigorous enforcement of traffic laws has been demonstrated in Karachi, where traffic police data reveals that 589 government vehicles have been issued e-challans for violating traffic rules. The statistics underscore the non-discriminatory application of the law, extending accountability to departments like the Sindh Police.
According to the data submitted to high officials, the total includes 118 mobile units and other vehicles belonging to the Sindh Police. Overall, the traffic enforcement campaign has resulted in over 61,850 challans being issued, reflecting the police’s concentrated efforts to ensure compliance.
The breakdown of violations highlights common safety lapses: a vast majority—41,431 challans—were issued for failure to fasten seatbelts. Additionally, 11,000 fines were levied against motorcyclists without helmets, and 964 challans were issued to heavy vehicles.
Other offenses included 2,200 challans for running red lights, 1,447 for using mobile phones while driving, and 795 fines for using tinted windows. These figures underscore the significant volume of regulatory violations despite the stringent new enforcement mechanism.
