In northwest Houston, a child tragically lost their life after being hit by a car, as reported by the Houston Police Department. The incident occurred around 8:41 p.m. on Saturday at 5601 North Shepherd Drive.
Authorities stated that the child, estimated to be between 10 to 15 years old, was crossing from the east side of Shepherd Drive to reach a store on the west side. While the child successfully navigated the northbound lanes, they were struck by a vehicle upon entering the southbound lanes of Shepherd Drive.
According to investigators, the driver had a green light, and the child was not utilizing a crosswalk at the time of the accident. Despite the efforts of first responders, the child was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver remained at the site and is cooperating with law enforcement. As of now, the identity of the victim has not been disclosed, and charges have not been filed. Authorities mentioned the challenge of identifying the child due to the absence of any form of identification on their person.
