According to deputies, a man driving with his family in northeast Harris County was shot in the chest.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is investigating whether the shooting is connected to a shoplifting incident at a 99 Cents Only Store.
Earlier in the day, a woman working at the store experienced a disturbance involving suspected shoplifters.
Later, while the employee and her family were driving on Little York near the Eastex Freeway around 10 p.m., shots were fired.
Sgt. Jonathan Ryan stated that a male relative exited the vehicle and was shot in the chest by the suspected shoplifters. However, deputies are still determining whether the shooting was motivated by the theft incident.
The injured man was transported to the hospital for surgery, and the shooters remain at large.
Fortunately, a child who was also in the vehicle was unharmed.
