Washington D.C.: US President Donald Trump announced a significant diplomatic development, revealing that the Central Asian nation of Kazakhstan is set to join the Abraham Accords. He further claimed that more countries will follow suit and become part of the agreement, which provides a framework for normalizing relations between Israel and Muslim-majority states.
The announcement was made at the White House following President Trump’s meeting with the leaders of five Central Asian countries. The discussions covered several critical regional and global issues, including the situation in Gaza, Iran, and the Russia-Ukraine war.
Responding to questions from reporters, President Trump stated that since Kazakhstan already maintains diplomatic relations with Israel, its addition to the Abraham Accords is largely symbolic. Nevertheless, its inclusion signals that the efforts to normalize ties with Israel are expanding geographically beyond the Middle East.
The day prior, Steve Witkoff, the US Special Representative for the Middle East, had hinted that another nation would announce its entry into the ‘Abraham Accords,’ aimed at strengthening ties between Israel and Muslim-majority countries. Kazakhstan’s move could mark a new shift in the regional diplomatic landscape.
