Kech Deputy Commissioner Bashir Ahmed Breach confirmed on Wednesday night that Hanif Noorzai, the Assistant Commissioner of Tump tehsil, was released by his captors. Mr. Noorzai had been abducted on June 4 by armed men while he was traveling with his family from Tump to Quetta to celebrate Eid.
During the journey, his official vehicle was stopped. The armed men allowed his family, driver, and Levies guards to go, but they took Mr. Noorzai at gunpoint. The outlawed Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) had claimed responsibility for the kidnapping.
According to sources, Mr. Noorzai was released in Tump and later contacted authorities to inform them of his release. The Assistant Commissioner was then flown to Quetta late that night on a special plane arranged by the Balochistan chief minister.
