A major setback has hit former Pakistani fast bowler Irfan Junior after he was found guilty of the serious offense of ball tampering while playing local domestic cricket in Australia. Following the conviction, he has been immediately suspended from cricket for five matches. This incident underscores the critical importance of upholding the spirit of the game on the cricket field.
According to Australian media reports, the accusation was leveled during a Victoria Premier Cricket match. Umpires suspected Irfan Junior of illegally altering the condition of the ball during play.
After hearing the case, the Cricket Victoria Tribunal upheld the charges against the fast bowler and announced a five-match ban. Irfan Junior, who now plays domestic cricket in Australia, previously represented various franchises in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and played First-Class cricket in Pakistan.
Having relocated to Australia a few years ago, Irfan Junior became eligible for domestic tournaments after playing for local cricket clubs there. The ban means he will be unavailable for his team’s next five matches, a development that significantly harms his career and reputation.
