According to the Seismological Centre, the seismic event occurred at 9:54 AM, registering a magnitude of 3.2 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was located north of Malir, at a depth of 35 kilometers.
Tremors were notably experienced in the areas of Quaidabad, Shah Faisal Colony, and vicinities surrounding Gulzar Hijri and University Road. Residents in these neighborhoods described a brief shaking sensation, with many reporting it lasted only a few seconds.
“People briefly exited their homes and offices after feeling the jolts,” a resident of Shah Faisal Colony recounted.
Seismologists confirmed the earthquake was minor and presented no immediate danger. A spokesperson from the Seismological Centre stated, “The seismic activity observed this morning falls within a pattern of low-magnitude quakes we have been tracking since the beginning of the month.”
This recent tremor is the 39th recorded instance of seismic activity in and around Karachi since June 1st, prompting worry among both the public and seismology experts regarding the increased frequency of these tremors.
Authorities have advised residents to remain calm and adhere to fundamental safety guidelines in case of subsequent seismic activity.
