He hailed Pakistan as a “strong opponent,” acknowledging the long-standing tradition of competitive and high-quality cricket played between the two nations.
Asalanka was optimistic about the contest, stating that the victory would ultimately go to the team that delivers the best performance on the field. He also commended Pakistan’s impressive display in their recent matches against South Africa.
“Sri Lanka and Pakistan have historically always played good cricket,” the visiting captain remarked. “They are a strong opponent, and we appreciate the outstanding hospitality of Pakistan.” Highlighting his team’s strengths, Asalanka noted that the Sri Lankan squad is currently playing good cricket, with their power resting primarily in their bowling attack. He confidently added, “If Pakistan has excellent batters, we have top-tier bowlers.”
Looking ahead to the key match-ups, Asalanka specifically named Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman as Pakistan’s best batsmen, anticipating a tough challenge for the Sri Lankan batters from formidable fast bowlers like Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf.
