The Islamic Republic of Pakistan is a country situated in the region of South Asia. With a population of 241.5 million people, it holds the position of the world’s fifth-most populous country and is home to the second-largest Muslim population globally. Spanning an area of 881,913 square kilometers (340,509 square miles), Pakistan ranks as the 33rd largest country in the world. It boasts a 1,046-kilometer (650-mile) coastline along the Arabian Sea and Gulf of Oman to its south. Its land borders are shared with India to the east, Afghanistan to the west, Iran to the southwest, and China to the northeast. To the north, it is separated from Tajikistan by the narrow Wakhan Corridor of Afghanistan and also shares a maritime boundary with Oman.
