The United States has dispatched a high-level delegation to Islamabad ahead of planned talks with Iran, according to US President Donald Trump. In a statement on social media, Trump stated that the American team had reached Pakistan and would be present in Islamabad on Friday evening for negotiations.
Trump also accused Iran of violating the ceasefire by firing missiles at the Hormuz Strait, citing it as an unusual move as the Strait is already blocked due to American naval presence. The US president claimed that Iran’s decision to block the Strait would result in a loss of $500 million to the country daily, while the US would incur no losses.
Moreover, Trump stated that several ships were heading to the US, specifically to Texas, Louisiana, and Alaska, citing Iran’s Revolutionary Guards as the reason behind this move. The Iranian Revolutionary Guards, he claimed, have always been aggressive.
Trump expressed confidence that Iran would accept the US’s “very reasonable deal offer,” failing which the US would take drastic measures, including destroying all of Iran’s power plants and bridges. He maintained that the US would not repeat the mistakes of the Obama era.
Meanwhile, Pakistani authorities have taken measures to prepare for the negotiations, with Islamabad’s hotels being cleared of their existing bookings, and no new reservations being allowed until Friday.
The Iranian delegation is yet to make a decision regarding its participation in the second round of talks with the US in Islamabad.
