Germany’s Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, has stated that his country will take necessary steps to ensure the freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. According to foreign media reports, Germany has welcomed the two-week temporary ceasefire between the US and Iran and appreciated Pakistan’s role in the agreement. The Chancellor emphasized that this ceasefire should be a crucial step towards lasting peace.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had requested a two-week extension of the deadline from US President Donald Trump in a dead-line call. He expressed gratitude to Pakistan for playing a role in the agreement and stated that the target for the coming days should be to ensure that the permanent elimination of war is ensured through diplomatic means. He further emphasized that Germany supports diplomatic efforts and is in close contact with the US and other partners.
US President Trump stated that negotiations with Iran would begin soon, and it was possible that Iran would not participate in the talks due to security reasons. The United Arab Emirates has stated that its air defense has destroyed 17 ballistic missiles. According to the UAE Defense Ministry, Iran has fired 35 drones, which were destroyed. The President of Ukraine, Zelensky, has welcomed the ceasefire and expressed readiness to extend the ceasefire with Russia as well.
