Pakistan and Egypt have stepped up efforts to negotiate a ceasefire between the United States and Iran, mere hours away from the deadline for US-Iran conflict.
According to a report by Bloomberg, US Vice President Mike Pence has expressed hopes that Iran will respond by 8 pm local time today. The report further states that in the last 24 hours, both Pakistan and Egypt have made numerous phone calls to negotiate for a ceasefire. Bloomberg reports that both countries are working together to convey messages between Washington and Tehran to resolve the tensions.
The US newspaper has highlighted the risks of global financial instability due to the ongoing conflict between the US and Iran. US President Donald Trump had earlier stated that his Vice President, Mike Pence, is in talks with Pakistan to reach out to Iran.
Egyptian Foreign Minister had earlier revealed that he had spoken with US Special Envoy Steve Wietkof and Pakistani Foreign Minister Esahk Dar on Monday. President Trump stated that Iran and the US will soon start negotiations, with the possibility that Mike Pence may not participate in the talks due to security reasons.
The global market has seen a decline in the price of crude oil, with a 21% drop in the UAE crude price as per the London International Market. A top Iranian official stated that Iran may control the Strait of Hormuz and open it to a limited extent on Friday.
Israel’s Army Chief General Eyal Zamir has stated that Israel will continue to attack Hezbollah’s positions in Lebanon without a ceasefire, as the world is witnessing a positive development in the two-week ceasefire between the US and Iran. Austria’s leadership has praised Pakistan’s role in the ceasefire, and various French newspapers have published reports on Pakistan’s role in the truce.
European Council President Antonio Costa, European Commission President Ursula Van der Leyen, and European Foreign Affairs Chief Josep Borrell have issued separate statements welcoming the development. Chairman of the Kashmir Council, Ali Reza Syed, stated that Pakistan’s role in mediating between the US and Iran is commendable and a significant positive development.
The UAE has stated that its air defense has destroyed 17 ballistic missiles fired by Iran, while 35 drones were shot down. UAE President Nour El-Sisi emphasized that the ceasefire agreement must be implemented in full, without any provocation, conspiracy, or sabotage.
Ukrainian President Zelensky welcomed the Iran ceasefire, while expressing his readiness to negotiate a ceasefire with Russia. Since the announcement of the ceasefire, the movement of ships in the Strait of Hormuz has been minimal. US Vice President Mike Pence stated that the US and its allies have agreed to refrain from attacking Iran.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that ceasefire violations are affecting the spirit of peace. US President Donald Trump stated that negotiations with Iran will begin soon, with the possibility that Mike Pence may not participate due to security reasons.
