Iranian officials have denied claims by the US Department of State that two women, allegedly relatives of slain Iranian commander Qasem Soleimani, have been arrested. Earlier, the US Department of State had claimed that two women, Hamideh Soleimani Afshar and her daughter, were arrested and had their Green Card revoked. In response, the Iranian Embassy in Zimbabwe, following a tongue-in-cheek instruction from US President Donald Trump to “open the door,” replied with a sarcastic note saying “the key is lost.” US President Trump had earlier tweeted that the deadline for the deal would be final, and that the US military is the greatest in the world.
In a separate response, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi condemned the US and Israeli airstrikes on the Shahr-e Qods University, calling them “unjustified aggression.” Iranian officials have stated that the country will not agree to a ceasefire, and that the US and Israeli actions are a clear violation of international law.
A report by the Israeli media suggests that Israel’s defense system has been overwhelmed by the relentless attacks, and that the country needs time to intercept the missiles. Russian officials have expressed concerns that the entire Middle East region is on the brink of war.
Iran has rejected the US proposal for a 15-point plan, calling it “unreasonable and unrealistic.” The country has stated that it will not accept any proposal that does not address its legitimate concerns.
