Oracle, a leading US-based IT company, has begun laying off employees in large numbers as part of its organizational restructuring efforts. According to international media reports, the company has fired almost 12,000 employees in India, with further layoffs expected within the next month. Affected employees claim that Oracle has fired approximately 30,000 people worldwide, with India having about 30,000 employees, a significant number of whom have been affected by the recent decisions. Amazon, another major US e-commerce company, plans to cut jobs in the next week, which could result in around 14,000 corporate employees losing their jobs.
These layoffs are part of the 30,000 positions that Amazon aims to eliminate. The company has sent emails to employees stating that some roles are being eliminated as part of the organizational structure changes and operational efficiency efforts. Employees who have served for at least a year are being offered a package that includes a 15-day severance pay, remaining pay for a month, paid leave, graduation benefits, and a one-month notice period pay. Additionally, they will receive two months of additional pay as a top-up, but this package is only for employees who resign voluntarily.
The Indian media reported that the company has refused to comment officially on the matter.
