Pakistani Ministry of Finance has announced that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) review has been successful, with positive outcomes and reforms on the right track. According to an official statement, Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves have increased to $21.7 billion, which is the highest level in the country’s history. There has been a continuous increase in the foreign exchange reserves for the past 35 weeks.
The Ministry of Finance also stated that the expansion of access to the Arabian Sea has resulted in stability in the shipping sector, fuel security has improved, and Pakistan has 4 weeks’ worth of oil reserves. Under the agreement, Pakistan is expected to receive a $1.2 billion installment, paving the way for the country to receive the payment.
The briefing also mentioned that the improvement in trade routes has led to increased attention being given to the country’s ports. The Ministry of Finance further stated that the large-scale manufacturing sector is growing at a double-digit rate, with over $50 million being invested in the digital infrastructure.
Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, Masood Khalid, has stated that China wants a ceasefire before US President Donald Trump’s visit to China, which is scheduled for next week. The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated that China appreciates and supports Pakistan’s efforts to mediate a ceasefire between the two countries.
