Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise owners have collectively appealed to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to allow cricket fans to re-enter stadiums during the tournament. Franchise owners took to social media to express their stance, emphasizing that the presence of fans is the true essence of PSL. Atif Rana, owner of Lahore Qalanders, stated that PSL is a celebration of cricket in Pakistan, but it feels incomplete without fans.
Adam Zampa, a league spinner for Karachi Kings, has joined hands with local players in Karachi and has requested the Prime Minister and Chief Minister to allow fans to return to stadiums. Goher Shah, owner of Multan Sultans, said that all franchises want fans to return as cricket’s true beauty lies in the participation of the masses.
Ahsan Tahir, owner of Rawalpindi team, emphasized that cricket is impossible without fans and that it is a legacy of the Pakistani people, which remains alive due to their passion. Javed Afridi, owner of Peshawar Zalmi, described PSL as a means to unite the nation and stated that the enthusiasm of fans is the true identity of the league.
Ali Naqvi, owner of Islamabad United, also expressed his stance on social media, stating that the energy of fans in the ground is the heartbeat of PSL and that the league feels incomplete without them.
Security has been heightened across the city in preparation for PSL 11’s opening match in Lahore. Fawad Saeed, owner of Hyderabad Kingsmen, stated that the lack of fans was severely felt during the first match and requested that the noise of the crowd be heard from every boundary and wicket.
All franchise owners are in agreement that PSL is not just a tournament but a symbol of national unity and public sentiment, which can only be completed with the presence of fans.
The Multan Sultans have successfully reached their target of 172 runs in just 19 overs, losing 5 wickets. Jason Gillespie, head coach of Hyderabad Kingsmen, stated that there is no problem with the PCB, and the position of the test coach has been filled well, hence there are no issues.
Quetta Gladiators won the toss and elected to bat against Hyderabad Kingsmen. Saaim Ayub of Hyderabad Kingsmen stated that the challenge is not easy but a chance for me to prove myself. Provez Hussain stated that it’s great for foreign players to get a chance to play in PSL and that it will benefit them.
Peshawar Zalmi became the first team to achieve a target of 215 runs in a single innings without scoring a century. PSL 11’s final match will take place on May 3rd. If the match is not completed by then, the reserve day will be on May 4th. If the match is not completed on the reserve day, the team with the best performance in the league will be awarded the trophy.
