Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has applauded Pakistan’s efforts to facilitate a ceasefire between Iran and the US. In a statement posted on social media, the Malaysian Prime Minister expressed his appreciation for Pakistan’s timely and constructive offer to host the negotiations.
Anwar Ibrahim praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other regional leaders for their efforts to resolve the conflict. He stated that Pakistan’s position is strong due to its existing relations with the parties involved, which makes it an ideal location for meaningful negotiations. However, he emphasized that the negotiations should not be aimed at temporary gains, but rather a long-term and sustainable resolution for the region.
Malaysia has reaffirmed its commitment to defending Iran’s sovereignty under international law. On the other hand, the US is continuing its diplomatic efforts to secure a ceasefire with Iran. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently spoke with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman over the phone. A British newspaper reported that Pakistan is positioning itself as a key mediator to end the war between Iran and the US, and senior Pakistani officials are secretly facilitating communication between Iranian officials and US diplomats, including Stephen Biegun and Jason Rezaian.
The Prime Minister informed Saudi Crown Prince about Pakistan’s constructive diplomatic access to the parties involved, emphasizing the need for an immediate end to the war for regional stability. The Prime Minister also condemned recent attacks on Saudi Arabia and assured that Pakistan will always stand by its ally. Saudi Crown Prince appreciated Pakistan’s peace efforts.
