Pakistan National Accreditation Council (PNAC), the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of Pakistan, has issued a Certificate of Accreditation to the Halal Certification Testing and Research Service (HCTRS) established at the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) of the University of Karachi. According to PNAC, this accreditation is conditional upon regular monitoring and compliance with its requirements and shall remain effective until February 26, 2029.
It is notable that the Halal Certification, Testing and Research Services, operating under the H.E.J. Research Institute of Chemistry, University of Karachi, has achieved this institutional success. To celebrate this achievement, a meeting was held at the H.E.J. Research Institute of Chemistry on Monday, presided over by Director ICCBS, Professor Dr. Muhammad Reza Shah. During the meeting, the Director was informed that the PNAC’s decision to accredit HCTRS confirms that the institution meets the required standards in its designated field. Professor Reza Shah appreciated the efforts of the technical and non-technical staff of HCTRS, saying that this significant achievement reflects the institute’s strong technical capabilities and high-quality assurance system. He stated that ICCBS established HCTRS is a renowned and highly active Halal services center that provides a one-stop-shop for Halal certification, testing, training, and research. The Director further said that this is the only research institute in the government sector that provides related Halal services and is committed to maintaining high-quality laboratory operations. Professor Reza Shah said that the PNAC’s accreditation of HCTRS holds high significance nationally and internationally, as it strengthens the institution’s reputation, ensures conformity to international standards, and secures Pakistan’s position in the growing Halal industry. He added that the PNAC’s accreditation transforms HCTRS from a local certification body to a globally recognized, scientifically sound, and economically significant institution.
