A recent survey conducted by American broadcasting institution NBC News has revealed a notable decline in American support for Israel during the Iran conflict. According to the survey, 39% of Americans hold negative views about Israel, while 32% have positive views. In contrast, three years ago, 47% of Americans had a positive view of Israel, while 34% held a negative view.
The report suggests that a significant reason for this shift in public opinion is the growing criticism of Israel from Democrats and liberal voters. In 2023, the views of Democrats on Israel were almost evenly split, with 13% holding a positive view and 57% holding a negative view. Similarly, liberal voters also showed a significant change, with a positive view of Israel decreasing from 40% to 21% and a negative view increasing from 22% to 48%.
The survey also found that the American public is now almost evenly divided on the Israeli-Palestinian issue. While 40% of Americans sympathize with Israel, 39% sympathize with the Palestinians. In contrast, in 2013, 45% of Americans sympathized with Israel, while only 13% sympathized with the Palestinians.
The survey also highlighted a clear distinction among age groups, with younger Americans showing a greater decline in positive views of Israel. The survey was conducted between February 27 and March 2.
