Iran has reportedly used its new, locally designed and developed solid-fueled ballistic missile, called Sajil, during the recent attacks on Israel. According to a report by The National Interest, a US-based magazine, the Sajil missile has a payload capacity of approximately 700 kg and a range of around 2,000 to 2,500 km. Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps claims that the decision-making attacks have targeted enemy objectives across the region, and Iran has used multi-plural entry targetable missiles. If this is true, it means the missile can target parts of Egypt and Sudan, most of Ukraine, parts of southern Russia, a part of western China, India, and a large part of the Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea.
The report further states that if the Sajil missile were equipped with nuclear capabilities, its destructive potential would increase significantly. The design of the Sajil missile began in the early 1990s, and Iran reportedly conducted its first test of the missile in 2008, when it achieved a range of approximately 800 km. A second test was conducted in 2009 to improve its guidance and navigation systems. Since 2009, four additional flight tests have been conducted, and the sixth test reportedly saw the missile cover a distance of approximately 1,900 km in the Indian Ocean.
