West Indies cricketers have finally returned home after being stranded in India for nine days due to the failure of the International Cricket Council (ICC) to arrange chartered flights for their return. According to a statement released by Cricket West Indies (CWI), the team had been stuck in India since the end of the World Cup, awaiting a chartered flight to take them back home.
The CWI expressed its disappointment and frustration with the ICC’s inability to arrange the chartered flights, citing the ICC’s responsibility for making travel arrangements for players participating in ICC events. The team’s departure was further delayed due to the Middle East’s volatile situation and the closure of airspace routes. The CWI stated that the players were growing increasingly anxious as the chartered flight continued to experience delays.
In a statement, the CWI said that it had informed the ICC that it would no longer wait for the chartered flight and would instead arrange for the players to return home on commercial flights. Some players have already left India, while others are expected to depart on Monday and Tuesday. Shoaib Malik, a member of the Pakistan cricket team, has also withdrawn from the Hundred League action ahead of the One-Day International match.
