However, Asafari claimed that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei believed that Mojtaba Khamenei lacked the experience to run the country. Moreover, the Assembly of Experts did not vote in favor of Mojtaba Khamenei, but the Revolutionary Guard Corps allegedly forced him to be selected as the new leader.
