Pakistan has witnessed a plethora of rallies and processions across various cities to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Ali, considered a pivotal figure in Islamic history. In Karachi, a massive procession has started from Nishat Park, following a main congregation, with participants led by Maulana Asghar Hussain Shihidi. The procession is expected to conclude at the Imam Bargah Hussaini in Khairader.
A strict security plan has been enforced in the city, with roads leading to the procession route cordoned off with containers, and a large police and rangers presence surrounding the area. According to traffic police, both roads of MA Jinnah Avenue towards the Tower, and all cuts and roads from Sadar Hospital and Empress Market to Regular Chowk are closed for traffic.
The spokesperson for the police stated that the security arrangements for the Imam Ali procession are now in place, with roads and streets leading to the procession route closed off, and containers placed to block access to the area. Moreover, CCTV cameras will be used to monitor the procession continuously, snipers are stationed on high-rise buildings, and quick response teams are on standby in case of any emergency. The police have also urged citizens to report any suspicious activity on the emergency helpline 15.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, in a statement, said that the day serves as a reminder that standing firm in the face of truth and justice is the ultimate key to success. He urged citizens to take a cue from Imam Ali’s teachings and implement them in their lives.
Sindh Home Minister Zia Laiq said that the province has taken stringent security measures to ensure a peaceful observance of Imam Ali’s martyrdom. He emphasized that the security has been heightened in the region due to the tense and war-like situation.
In Lahore, a main procession is underway on its traditional route, starting from Mubarak Haveli, Mochi Gate, with the final destination at Karbala Gamay Shah. The route has been cordoned off with containers, and citizens are being restricted from entering the area. High-rise cameras are monitoring the procession, and snipers are stationed on the buildings.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed for full-proof security arrangements to be in place. She has also instructed for the monitoring of security measures taken for all processions and gatherings.
In Multan, a main procession will start from Chah Bohar Wala and conclude at Imam Bargah Lal Kari. The city will witness 12 matami processions and 15 gatherings to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Ali. The police have deployed over 2,000 personnel and have set up CCTV cameras and search operations to ensure the security of the processions.
In Quetta, a procession will start from Alamdar Road and conclude at the same location. The police have made full-proof arrangements for security, with a control room set up at the Central Police Office to monitor the procession.
The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has taken steps to improve the accuracy and effectiveness of the National Identity Card system.
