Karachi CCIA Foils Organized Scam Center, Arrests 4 Suspects in Crackdown

In a major crackdown, the Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (CCIA) Karachi, in collaboration with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NACIA), has busted an organized scam center operating in Karachi’s DHA Phase 2 Extension. The raid was conducted after a thorough check of the building revealed that the premises were being used to run a sophisticated scam where individuals were impersonating foreign bank representatives and scamming people through phone calls.
According to the CCIA, the scam center was operating in a building in DHA Phase 2 Extension, where individuals were using fake phone numbers to call foreign bank officials and gather sensitive information such as social security numbers, phone numbers, birthdays, and CVV codes. The obtained data was allegedly used to access unauthorized financial benefits through merchant accounts.
During the raid, 14 laptops, 10 mobile phones, and thousands of foreign nationals’ banking data were seized, all of which were being used for scamming and deception purposes. The seized digital equipment and evidence were confiscated in the presence of witnesses, and five suspects were booked under a memo.
The authorities have arrested four suspects and are conducting further investigations and legal proceedings. The remaining suspects are being pursued, and the seized digital equipment has been sent for technical analysis to aid in the investigation. The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has taken steps to strengthen the national identification system and prevent such scams in the future.
